After about four days of not really sleeping, last night I actually got some rest. However, in the middle of the night I woke up staring at the "sleep" indicator light on my iBook. Two things sped through my mind: "why is it so bright in the middle of the night?" and "why is it so bright in a fucking basement?". For those who really know me, my post-sleep confusion is no real surprise.
Anyhow, aside from the lack of sleep the move went well. On Saturday I packed up the last bits of my apartment and cleaned it up, picking up the Uhaul at a little before four. Aside from the Other I had help from an Italian filmmaker who hates hobos. Good thing, too, as there were plenty afoot in downtown Portland on a Saturday night, lurking about as hobos tend to do.
When we got done with my place we bid a fond ciao to my Italic comrade and went out to Beaverton to pack up the room there. Born-again-landlord was watching something about the signs of the apocalypse which made me all the more happy that we were done with the place. Dude has the full series of Left Behind books. Yeah. However, it was fun knowing that I had regularly been committing sins sans pants (giggity) in a godly house.
It took us about three hours to get everything packed up, as there was some stuff left to sort and box. Luckily we had gotten a fourteen foot truck, as we used every last inch of it. Having to sleep there (we couldn't move in until Sunday morning), we took everything out except the futon mattress. Next day we were up at five-thirty with the truck good-to-go by six. She had to work at six-thirty, so I left around that time too.
Oregon being Oregon, it decided to be windy and rainy most of the day. Having to drive across town to pick up my unloading help, I pretty much felt like I was driving a fucking sail board the entire time. Luckily, the truck was on it's last legs, so it probably would have blown apart rather than being blown over. I don't rightly know why that would be so much better, but it just is. If nothing else it'd be a hell of a lot more entertaining.
